[Heinrich de Fries was acquainted with the Feininger family and showed up at T. Lux Feininger's departure to USA at Anhalter Bahnhof to say goodbye. - From 1932, the Berlin architect ran a private school in his summer house in Werder upon Havel, modeled on Taliesin West, the school of Frank Lloyd Wright. Occasional guests there included Erich Kästner, Paul Hindemith, Gustav Kiepenheuer and Edwin Redlsob. When Laurence Feininger was considering becoming an architect, he studied briefly in Werder with de Fries - but spent most of his time playing the organ in the village church].
