  • TLF: "It was the summer of 1931 [sic], and we were sitting on the terrace of the Strandhotel in Ostdeep. We used to like to go there to get soused on the currant wine which was a specialty of the place. The inscription ...:"So sah ich gestern noch aus; heute lache ich nicht mehr [That's how I looked yesterday; today I'm no longer laughing]." I don't know for whom this inscription was made except that it was not for me; but this message has reached me today, sixty years later. ... [During our trip to Hamburg in 1932] in his two-seater Opel ... he got himself engaged to Hamburg Belle who accepted our family's invitation to spend the summer as our guest at Deep butr at the end of it broke the engagement for unknown reasons. - This misfortune it was that caused Andreas to scribble his note on the back of the photograph of him."
