  • [During the show of the stage-class at the end of the summer semester, on July 7, 1928, Oskar Schlemmer performs the new version of his 'Musical Clown' for the very first time.]

    [The authorship of this photo is uncertain. The Getty Museum lists their copy as being by T. Lux Feininger. TLF writes in his letter dated April 28, 1990 to the Getty: "Not by me". - However the print bears particular characteristics known from the dark room of the artist.]

    TLF: "[Photo] Not by me. Occasion and date the same as preceding [cf. Bauhaus stage: Oskar Schlemmer as musical clown... Getty-Inv. Nr.: 84.XM.127.4 annd 84.XM.127.16]. - The "cello" was an ingenious, battery-operated device created by Roman Clemens who in later life became a well-known theatre man; the "bow" was a fending foil which is seen also in other photographs in this lot." [215]
