What gift the Italian artist Morandi has given Bak and us. His familiar objects invested with little or no specific meaning have been recycled by Bak where they alert us the brokenness of our world.
The free space directs us to the bottle form filled by the sky behind it. Suddenly there is great depth beyond the foreground still life.
The gourd shaped object stands to the right of the opening. Other bottles are present or suggested by the collage of layers of materials.
Of late I have emphasized Bak’s virtuosic ability to render all materials with fidelity eg wood, leather, stone, metal et al. This talent makes us accept the reality of the objects and their condition. Some whole, some fractured, some just in silhouette. Yet all present for the composition that asks us to accept its unacceptable questions of the state of our world.
