  • Is seeing truly believing? Can we trust all that we think we see, or is our vision as easily manipulated as our thoughts?

In this piece, two men stand in a similar stance in two different spots. One has his back turned toward the viewer looking into the world within the painting; the other has his head turned downwards, peeking into a book. Remnants of what look like gigantic scrolls rest between two trees in front of the second man, the trees holding up the egg-shaped stone that supports the first man, contemplating into the distance. On the top right corner of the egglike boulder, inscribed into the stone, seems to be the Hebrew letter shin, which in some cases can represent the name of God. Are they seeing God in their reality?

What are these men seeing, and what are they believing?
