  • Quickly David Riesman's The Lonely Crowd came to mind. The tradition directed, the inner directed, and the outer directed man were the underlying optics for Riesman.
These structural phenomena remain relevant even today as we try to better understand how each one of us functions in this confused and confusing world.

Bak in this vague drawing alerts us to this ongoing search to identify with some group or any group.
A visual conundrum. Are we part of the smaller or the larger crowd?
Do we have an identity separate from the Crowd?

Simple lines and lights and darks produce the illusion of these two crowds.
Which do you select, or do you stand totally separate from the crowds?
