  • A teacup stands on the brink of obliteration, kept in place only by a small amount of rope that binds it to a tree stump that appears to be rotting. The cup’s cover is also bound to a rope, but it has since frayed, leaving it tied to nothing. The cliff beneath the cup is slowly falling apart, with every second bringing the teacup closer to destruction as the ground beneath it falls away from its foot. The rope could provide a small sense of security to the cup, as it may hold it as the first bits of ground fall away from it. But in time even the stump will fall into the oblivion that lays below, with no one or thing to prevent it from collapsing.

As we stand upon the brink of destruction, small senses of security bring us great comfort in a world where everything seems out of control. In the end, all we can hope for is for things to get better and that the ropes that prevent us from falling remain strong.

    ---------------------------

Do we realize that each day we live On the Brink?
Waking up with your cup of coffee to energize you to meet what the day holds. You are on the brink.

The artist provides us with the cup precariously poised on the edge of the cliff. One slight move and disaster happens.
The cup is tentatively tied to the tree. Will the knot hold?
Our cup has seen better days, but it also records its brush with near death.

Again the placement in nature proves disorienting and therefore thought provoking.
