My cup runneth over? My cup is empty? Who is to know what life will bring.
There are choices that we make and they bring consequences or unintended results. There are also results that are well beyond our control. When we are at the right place at the right time or the reverse. How do we know which is the best, correct or effective choice? We do not!!!
Some ascribe the “grand plan” to an outside or higher source and abdicate responsibility for the choices or the outcomes. Others simply go with the flow and others believe in their agency to make things happen.
Bak’s art is all about asking questions and allowing the proposed answers to be understood as added questions.
Survival in the midst of the war is beyond imaginable. Turn left and you are dead. Turn right and you are dead. Chose to steal a morsel of bread from your neighbor and they will starve. Langer posits the term "choice less choice".
Should you try to drink from the apparently empty cup or from the overflowing cup? Is no liquid better than rancid liquid?
