  • Vilna has always had an angel but to what purpose and to what end?

Usually presented as part of a Church and for the most part the Churches of Vilna were complicit in deepening the myth and lie of Jews as Christ killers. Jews as the effective agents of the Devil.

The soil was fertilized by lies of hatred and deception.

This broken angel of Vilna has been set aside as a reminder of past deceit. There were in addition righteous Christians who were a part of Bak’s survival. The Benedictine nuns were most helpful.

There are always complicated back stories to each generalization. Sam is always prompt to acknowledge righteous and courageous good deed doers as he maintains a balanced sense of his past.
Also luck played a great part.
For all of us the opportunity to continue to learn from his art is a great gift and opportunity and challenge.
