  • [Bauhaus stage Dessau, conceived and directed by Oskar Schlemmer. The ironic pantomime Treppenwitz/Staircase Wit* (l’esprit d’escalier) was performed in 1927, staged by using figures of the opening event for the Bauhaus building on 4 December 1926 (e.g. the musical clown for A. Weininger) and by the inventive use of the new mobile stage pedestals.]

Scheper: "... The stage [of the Bauhaus] is equipped with a "four-row rail system for movable walls, props etc.". Additionally with 72m² of elevating platforms to raise the stage floor for half a meter, which as well can be used "for a stage production"**, of course.* [209, p. 138, **cf. 210 bauhaus 3 (1927)]

Hans M. Wingler, BAUHAUS, Cambridge 1969, p. 468/ 470a: "... Photograph posed in the stage workshop in 1926 or 1927. Performers were Hildebrandt, Siedhoff, Schlemmer and Weininger. This pantomime was probably rehearsed in the latter part of 1925 and was repeatedly performed until 1929." ... "This photo, like those on the two preceding pages was taken by Lux Feininger"
