  • TLF: "The painting of The Charles River. Evoked may have been prompted, when I painted it in 1954, by the view through the trolley car window, flying along the river bank toward Waverley...; but, painting it, I had felt the breath of something eternal – out of sidereal time. ... [This] “new painting” began by manifesting itself in the new content; the next step to take, would be to search out the new form." [105]
