TLF: "[One of the paintings,] The Offshore Breeze, [when exhibited] at the Carnegie International in Pittsburgh... I had once refused [to sell], ... but I had only refused four hundred [dollars] and that, for the single reason that the money paid for my picture would have to go to the country of origin of it, which was Germany. [Now, at the exhibition at Julien Levy Gallery in New York, 1940] I said that I’d be overjoyed to sell this painting for what was offered..." [105]
