  • TLF: "… I had fallen in love as violently as it was sudden and unexpected (I had known the girl as a fellow student in the weaving shop for a year) … but as it remained one-sided its effect was, to enhance my romanticism. … But to this day I cannot see the girl’s photograph without a distinct tremor. In my photograph she appears together with her sister, who was visiting her; she is looking at the camera and, since I was holding it, at me; her sister, on the other hand, is peering ahead as if she were trying to discern something as yet too far distant to read clearly." [205]
