TLF: "Pacific pioneer. The huge wooden steamer Golden City was built in 1863 by the famous designer and builder of clipper ships William H. Webb. She was described by contemporary writers as one of the finest wooden vessels ever contructed in the United States, a faultless model, a complete and sumptious steamer. Her paddle wheels were forty-five feet in diameter. She was employed in the San Francisco-Panama trade until she was wrecked in 1870." [The Rudder, February 1949]
