  • TLF: "Teaser, of 1864. This remarkable steamer was built of steel at Liverpool, England, for the express purpose of running the blockade of Confederate ports, in which she was entirely successful. Her dimensions are interesting: length 214 feet overall, beam (without guards) twenty feet, net registered tonnage 217. Her sea speed was in excess of eleven knots. Freight rates earned by this and similar steamers where between $250 and $350 (gold!) per ton." [The Rudder, February 1949]
