TLF: "Benodet, at the mouth of the river Odet [13]. Almost invisible in the glitter of the sun on the water, one of the many topsail schooners still trading up and down the Atlantic coast in 1931 is at anchor and waiting for the turn of the tide. On the River Odet [12], a large, coastwise cutter, laden with wine casks, sailing up to the city of Quimper in the evening breeze, helped along by two sailors sculling with long sweeps. The white patch in her jib formed a gorgeous contrast with the deep red of her sails." [The Rudder, June 1948]
