Inscr. upper right: Lux Lynx (III) March '54. Verso part of another drawing inscr. upper right: Th. LUX 8th of June 1938 The Tug
TLF: "During the winter, and well into the spring, of 1954 I had made quite a series of little drawings with watercolors of a variety of creatures depicted in my Ludwig-Heck book. ... Beginning with insects (beetles and wasps) and a spider, I advanced to mollusks and fishes and ultimately to warm-blooded animals: a weasel, several baboons, a camel, sheep etc." [305]
TLF: "When I first turned towards “nature” ... I chose the most ferocious-looking creatures; satanically sneering Caracal Lynx, the onrush of the nightmarish wart hog, then the threatening crouch for the spring of the desperate baboon. ... [And] the ornamental and deadly coil of the ever-ready viper." [305]
