Das Waldhotel in West-Deep
The Waldhotel in West-Deep Repro: MAIN
  • 1927-1928, in Deep
  • Negative untracable

  • Prints known:
    1. Private collection, gelatin silver print, 83 x 113 mm. Verso inscr. by the artist: Waldhotel, W. Deep where I painted a bar room panel in 1934

  • TLF:" In the evenings [during the summer holidays 1934 in Deep] I sometimes went for a Köhm (German gin) and beer at the nearby "Waldhotel"; I found the proprietor congenial and anything but a Nazi; I painted for him, on a huge sheet of plywood... For the “grelleren” (more screaming) colors (as he expressed it) I went to my father, who was painting this year in Deep, the only year he [had ever brought his painting outfit]. This was due to the temporary homelessness of my folks, and thus Albert Wilke’s upper-storey best apartment was the birthplace of Lyonel Feininger’s immortal Red Fiddler." [205, the Waldhotel-paining is untraceable]
