The drawing of the truck driver is one a set of drawings I called "The History of Transportation" (this is No. II. I believe I have still three others). I hoped to attract the attention of the New Yorker with them and each week on the designated day dropped a drawing through the slot. Each suceeding designated day I picked it up again with the appropriate rejection slip. I kept this up for a few weeks. [...] I could not drive in those years but I had observed the footwork of drivers in these ancient, World-War I trucks one could still see in N.Y. in 1948. P.
